2 Samuel 11-12, Psalms 111, Romans 14

What God said to me – You’ve heard it said that no man is an island and it is true.  You don’t live your life in isolation.  Your sin or obedience or your beliefs or unbelief don’t just affect you – it affects others – your family – your community – even your nation.  When people declare this is my life or this is my body and I will do with it as I want, they discount the fact that there is not just individual judgment, but there is national judgment for those nations who deny My sovereignty.  When David chose to sin with Bathsheba and have her husband, Uriah, sent to the heat of the battle to be killed, his sin didn’t just affect him or even Bathsheba or Uriah – it also affected his family and his nation.  When you choose ungodliness – even ungodliness that has been declared legal by your nation – you are not just making a personal choice but, you are affecting your family and your country because judgment will fall.  “I AM” holy and I will not be mocked.

2 Samuel 9-10, Psalms 110, Romans 13

What God said to me – How are you known within your community?  Are you known as someone who keeps their word?  Are you known as someone who is always willing to help – who goes above and beyond?  Or are you known as someone who never has time to help anyone else?  My children should be known for their love and willingness to reach out and help others even without being asked.  Because of David’s covenant with Jonathan, David searched for ways to minister to Jonathan’s children after his death.  He was proactive and looked for ways to be a blessing.  If you truly love your neighbor as yourself, you don’t have to worry about fulfilling the law – you’ll automatically be keeping My commandments and pleasing Me.  “I AM” love and when you love others this way you look like Me.

2 Samuel 7-8, Psalms 109, Romans 13

What God said to me – Out of all of the nations on earth I chose Israel to honor and to be the nation I would use to show the world who “I AM”.  Out of all the young boys in Israel I chose David, a simple shepherd, to lift up and become king and to establish his kingdom forever.  Out of multitudes of people on earth I chose you to be My child and that alone should cause you to fall down before Me with gratitude and worship.  You’ll never be able to comprehend why I choose one and not another.  Israel had done nothing to cause Me to choose them.  David had done nothing to cause Me to choose him.  You did nothing to cause Me to choose you.  I choose who I choose in order to bless those I have chosen and to demonstrate My sovereignty and show Myself to be God.  You just trust Me and be grateful for My choice.
