2 Kings 15-17

What God said to me – People today are like the people of Samaria who the Assyrians brought in when they took Israel captive – they feared the Lord, but also served other gods.  They did not worship Me or serve Me wholeheartedly.  They gave Me a little piece of their hearts, of their time, of their devotion, but they gave the rest to idols.  How about you?  Do you give Me a little piece of your heart and keep the rest of it for the things you want to do or enjoy?  I desire a people who serve Me with their whole hearts.  In order to serve Me in this way and walk with Me, you must allow Me to fill your whole life.  Only I can make a divided heart whole and I do that as you walk with Me and listen to Me each moment.  It is not just a lifelong commitment on your part, it is a moment by moment commitment.

2 Kings 12-14

What God said to me – Character is important.  I expect those who are Mine to walk in faithfulness and righteousness even when no one is watching.  The way you act when no one is watching is an indication of your true character.  Jehoash “did right in the sight of the Lord all his days in which Jehoiada the priest instructed him.”  The problem was as soon as the priest died, Jehoash moved away from Me.  What about you?  Do you walk with Me when others are watching and go your own way when you are alone?  Don’t you know “I AM” always watching?  You must determine that your behavior is not based on who sees or doesn’t see you, but on your desire to please Me.  Set your heart on pleasing Me at all times.  Your wholeheartedness is more pleasing to Me than the actual service performed.

2 Kings 9-11

What God said to me – You must be wholly devoted to Me – that means in every area of your life.  You cannot be zealous for Me in one area and live the way you want in another.  To live a compartmentalized life is to have a divided heart.  You must follow Me wholeheartedly.  Only I can remove a divided heart.  You cannot do it on your own.  Self-discipline and self-denial will only go so far.  Unless you allow Me to replace your divided heart with one wholly devoted to Me, you will continue to struggle in certain areas and fall away from Me.  Walk with Me consistently and allow Me to heal your divided heart.   Only then will you be able to overcome those besetting sins that trouble you.
